A family-run lodge, Jakar Village Lodge promises to deliver an experience of staying in a friend’s house rather than an impersonal lodge; indeed very well-known for its warm personal touch and amazing food quality, prepared to excite your palate by owner’s own daughter. The lodge faces Jakar Dzong in one direction and on the other the magnificent views of the Bumthang Valley and has a perfect sense of serenity and tranquility. A typical Bhutanese house with excellent rooms, modern in comfort and yet traditional. Infact the JVL was voted 21st best hotel in Asia (Bed & Breakfast) by Trivago 2009.
The restaurant overlooking the Buthmang valley is definitely a highlight, the view is simply amazing which is further complimented with the feel of home cooked food. The lodge also offers laundry service, postal service and room service. The library maintained in the center of the hotel is an added touch, which features owners personal collection and clients are too welcomed to borrow.

I recently stayed at this very pretty and cosy hotel in Bumthang, Bhutan. The hotel is just below the Jakar Dzong with stunning views of the Dzong itself and the valley.
Rooms are cute with nice decoration. Heating and hot water are always available.
The restaurant serves very good breakfast with local cheese and organic jam. If you have dinner there, ask for the tasty carrots with ginger or momos (Tibetan dumplings) with cabbage and cheese.
Also do not miss the chance to have a chat with the hotel owner, who is happy to share very interesting anecdotes of Bhutan and Bumthang Valley.
– “Pretty hotel in pretty Bumthang”
I do not understand the negative reviews for this hotel. It is located on a hill overlooking the town of Jakar but is a relatively short walk or cab ride to town. On the other hand, there isn't a whole lot to do or see in town during evening hours. The room wasn't fancy but it was clean and decent-sized. The hot water didn't last very long but long enough to take a basic shower. There is a basic but nice common area where there is a simple bar and where breakfast and dinner are served.
This is a family run operation that provides attentive service. The food was good. We had no problems and had no complaints with our stay. We were completely satisfied with our experience and would highly recommend the hotel.
– “Clean family run hotel with a friendly and attentive staff”
This is a lovely property that merges the warmth of a small business with excellent food and service. We were fed an amazing variety of food that offered something for everyone, ranging from traditional Bhutanese cooking to carrot cake. The family that runs the place is engaging, so accommodating and very knowledgeable about not just the local area but Bhutanese history, government and more. The rooms are cozy and well-heated, and there's great WiFi, bottles of water, as well as laundry service. The hotel also is walkable to the town, a great plus. It's wonderful to see a multi-generational family offering this kind of quality, personal accommodations especially as more large-scale hotels are built in Bhutan.
– “Excellent Hotel and Food”
I spent 12 days in Bhutan and this was my favorite of all the places I stayed. The room was comfortable and cozy, the food was great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It's run by a family with an adorable little girl and it's a very efficient operation. I'd highly recommend a stay here if you are in Bumthang! :)
