  • Norling Hotel Trongsa

    Some Key Facts:

    • Norling Hotel is located right in the middle of the Trongsa town. It has total of 10 rooms built with concrete structure in Bhutanese design.
    • The walls of the rooms are wood paneled till the middle. The rooms are individually heated by the electric radiator heater, and facilities are basic and simple.

This concrete local inn in the bazaar is a good place for lunch and it serves cold Red Panda beer. The nine upstairs wooden-floored rooms are decent and come with private bathrooms, catering to a mix of locals and visiting NGO staff.

We stayed here as part of our motorcycle trip through Bhutan. The hotel is one of the few in a small town. The lady owner is warm and helpful. The rooms were clean, and toilets hygienic. Rooms also offer a view of the Dzong and come with a heater. The restaurant offers great tasty food - go for the chicken combo. Parking is available in front of the hotel.

    – “A nice warm hotel”

I loved this hotel. The room was big enough for two. The bathroom was spacious and a proper working geyser. the room heater was also working. It had a charm to it and our room window opened out to the streets with view to the Dzong. it is conveniently located, the dzong and museum are five minutes from here. the food was good. The breakfast was toast with butter and jam, it was home made butter and it was yum. They also have home made arrack if you ask for. wifi works in the restaurant area.

    – “Excellent stay”

I stayed here for three days during the Trongsa tsechu from Dec 29 14 -Jan 1 15.

The place is located right in the center of Trongsa. So if you are an Indian national making up your plans as you go along like me, this is the place to be in Trongsa. The two big tourist spots - Trongsa dzong & Ta Trongsa (tower/museum) are 5 min walk from the place. So is the market to get local fresh fruit and ATM to get money.

The food is homely, decently priced and tasty. I had puri sabji, ema datse in the mornings and chowmein in the evening. The food costs about 120 per entree.

They charge about 1000 for a night. The room heater and hot water work well. The wifi doesn't. Don't expect it to. I used the 3G on my phone to surf.

The bathrooms were reasonably clean (mine had a stale cigarette butt). The bedroom linen were clean.

The owner lady and her family were helpful in answering any questions and the staff were helpful too.

    – “Clean homely budget place”

Norling Hotel is a basic place with comfortable beds, but the reason i'm so impressed with them is because of the prompt and good service from staff (I'm a sucker for these things even if the place itself isn't that amazing) and a homely atmosphere. I really enjoyed interacting with the staff members who are presumably family. Plus, as a volunteer working in Bhutan, they gave me a discount, no questions asked, and it was very affordable. There was room service too!

The food is AWESOME! One of the best in Trongsa I'm told. You have to try it when you're there

    – “Homely, cosy place with GREAT food!”
