Bhutan, being a Buddhist nation has many festivals that take place throughout the year in different regions of the country. The more popular ones are the Tshechu, which literally means the tenth day. Tsechus are festivals commemorating the deeds and accomplishments of the great Buddhist saint, Guru Padmasambhava, more commonly known as Guru Rinpoche in Bhutan. It is believed that Guru Rimpoche was born on the tenth day of the lunar calendar and all his great deeds were also accomplished on the tenth day hence we have the different festivals in Bhutan that take place on the tenth day of the lunar calendar throughout the year. Various mask dances, songs and dances are performed along with religious rituals during the festivals.

The most popular of these festivals are the Paro Tsechu, Thimphu Tsechu, and the Ura Yakchoe.
